![]() I did put my FlexVolt batts against the new 3 AH 21700 batt at the base. It seems that the new 20V (21700) 8AH is the same size as the "old" (18650) 6AH. The way to tell on the battery is to look for the little metal terminals on the top of the battery. The new labels debuted this year in 2020. Any 9ah battery manufactured in 20 cells. "DeWalt started to introduce 21700 cells in mid 2018. ![]() It appears that they moved from the 18650's to the 21700's with FlexVolts. This has been discussed in other subreddits it appears. It APPEARS that when they are using 21700 cells, they will use this language " Using the latest lithium ion technology." If I were starting from scratch I’d get a 4.0 and 8.0 pack and power detect tools (as soon as they are common and easy to find/buy). Power detect adds more watts and adds more runtime: Dewalt calls these Power Detectįlexvolt adds more watts but small runtime. amps - certain 21700 cells (not sure which yet) can feed extra amps to tools able to take advantage.Volts - flexvolts are generally made with 18650, adding cells to boost volts, therefore watts.I’m keeping my old 1.5ah 18650 for tools I use a few minutes a weekĪlso note: power is measured in watts. ![]() 21700 are definitely going on the two handed tools
